Basic value orientations and moral foundations: Convergent or discriminant constructs?

This study examined the structural and genetic links between value orientations, based on theory of basic values, moral concerns, foundations theory. We hypothesized both convergence Conservation (versus openness to change) with Binding Self-transcendence self-enhancement) Individualizing foundations. analyzed self- informant ratings from 924 participants extended multitrait-multirater modeling ran twin model analyses self-ratings 555 pairs. For foundations, we found partial across different rater perspectives a substantial overlap, but also distinct factors. were be structurally divergent, genetically linked. discuss conceptual measurement-related implications findings.
